Warrick County
Council
At Large
Howard "Tiger" Williams
bringing honesty & fairness
to Warrick county government
Candidate Bio
- Howard "Tiger" Williams is a resident
of Newburgh, and he is 55 years of age and is running for office on the
Democratic ticket for one of the 2008 Warrick County Council At Large
seats. He is life long resident of Warrick County and his parents were
Howard and Nathalie Williams (Raibley) of Chandler. Tiger is married to
Sherry Williams and they have four children.
He graduated from Castle High School
in 1971 and then worked for Alcoa from 1972–1977 and then began working
for the Warrick County Sheriff’s Department. In 2002, he retired from
the Warrick County Sheriff’s department after serving for 25 years, 16
of which were at the rank of Chief Deputy. During his tenure as Chief
Deputy, he had the opportunity to work under two Sheriffs, Jeff Gore and
Bruce Hargrave. As Chief Deputy he was responsible for preparing and
managing the budgets for the Sheriff, Jail, Corrections, and Dispatch.
After his retirement from the Warrick
County Sheriff’s department, he joined the Newburgh Police Department
and is currently serving as the Assistant Chief where he is responsible
for the preparation and oversight of the department’s yearly budget.
Tiger is also a member of the Warrick County FOP.
Goals
- Tiger's main objective is to bring
honesty and fairness to county government. In order to obtain this goal,
he intends to represent all areas of Warrick County. He is a strong
believer that bipartisan partnerships can not only help Warrick County
grow but flourish in the future and if elected he will strive to achieve
this goal.
He also believes that current county officials have mismanaged numerous
economic development opportunities. They have developed industrial
parks, hired administrators with competitive salaries to run the
department, but then they do not fully support these industrial parks.
Tiger also feels that something has to be done to entice new companies
to come to Warrick County and start their businesses as well as
encourage existing companies to relocate here. This would most
definitely bring more jobs and revenue to Warrick County instead of
conceding these jobs to neighboring counties.
Over the last several years, Warrick County has experienced losses in
major industry as its coal mines have closed. Alcoa is the only major
industry remaining in the county. Yet, no efforts have been made to
attract larger companies that could utilize the skilled local workforce.
Tiger believes the council needs to investigate other ways to provide
greater incentives to attract companies, and still protect Warrick
County by requiring the business to furnish a bond in the event they
default and leave the county.
In addition he feels Warrick County lost out when the Council turned
down the Black Buggy Restaurant, thereby forcing them to build in
Evansville. This project would have brought more jobs to our county
during construction by engaging local contractors and local unions. This
also impedes future development since patrons of Black Buggy will now
never see what Warrick County could have provided their business.
Tiger would like to ask for your support in the 2008 Warrick County
Council race and any support or time that can be provided, either
monetary, sign location, or working the polls would be greatly
appreciated.
