Hoosier families first

Richard has also served as Past President of the Crawford County 4-H Council, and the Chairman and Past President of the Board of E & S Distributors Co. Inc.  He was also a Past Member of the Advisory Board, for Southwest Region, Governor's Commission for a Drug Free Indiana.

The Senator, from Milltown is also a member of the Indiana Farm Bureau, the Crawford County Chamber of Commerce, and the Ramsey Lions Council. He is also Chairman, of the Crawford County FFA Advisory Committee, and a member of the Hoosier Hills P.A.C.T. Community Corrections Council and Violent Crimes Victim Task Force.

Goals

Senator Young recently sponsored the resolution which urges the Indiana Department of Natural Resources to cease purchasing land in Crawford and Perry counties, using monies from the heritage trust fund.

The resolution stems from concerns about the property tax base being decreased since land purchased from this fund is not taxable.  Since property taxes are the main source of funding for local governments and education, this will force an increase in property taxes for the current taxpayers.

Senator Young has stated that it is important to protect other property owners from further tax increases due to the court-ordered tax reassessment and the effects of a national recession.

He has stood up for both the working families and the farmers of Southern Indiana and he will continue to put the best interest of Hoosier families first.
